When a Kid Mode kid turns 13, you can move them up to the Teen view: their own login in the real Beyond Payday app, made simpler. You send an invite to their email. Kid Mode keeps working until they accept it; then their jars become accounts and their Kid Mode history is kept in My kid years.
Before you start
- You're the family owner, or a spouse or partner who can change Family.
- Your kid is 13 or older by the birth month and year in Kid Mode.
- Your kid has their own email address.
- Answer anything waiting for your OK first, so the jars are right when they move.
Steps
- Open Settings (opens in a new tab) and select the Family tab.
- Choose Ready for the Teen view on your kid's row, or open the row menu and choose Upgrade to the Teen view.
- Read What carries over, New privacy rules at 13 and the rest of the page.
- Under the login invite, type your kid's email and their Full birthday.
- Choose Upgrade (the button names your kid). Choose Not yet to go back without sending anything.
- Your kid opens the invite email and accepts it, creating their own login.
How it works
- Nothing changes until your kid accepts. Until then, their row shows Teen invite sent and Kid Mode works as before. You can send the invite again from the same page.
- When they accept, Kid Mode stops for them. Every jar becomes an account to the cent. The top goal, keep-safe money and the Give jar become goals linked to their own accounts. An allowance becomes income, and money borrowed from you becomes a debt. History, stickers, other goals and the wish list go to My kid years, read-only. Kid Mode devices, the PIN and the picture code are removed. See Where your Kid Mode jars went.
- If the jars don't move over, your kid's row shows Finish the Teen switch, and their Kid Mode page and the upgrade page show Retry. Nothing is lost.
- New privacy rules at 13: you can still see every money record in the family, including your teen's, and your teen is told this too. Lessons stay private unless your teen turns on Share my lessons. No ads and no analytics tracking. Your teen can't use AI features. Like every family record, your teen's money records can be read by your own Beth if you use it.
Good to know
- The full birthday must match the birth month and year Kid Mode has on file. If it doesn't, the page links to edit your kid's details first. If only the birth year is on file, the form opens from January of the year your kid turns 13 and the full birthday decides.
- Family Bank interest stops after the switch. Family Bank stays as an account.
- After the switch, open the menu on your teen's row in Settings → Family. Choose My kid years to see their Kid Mode history, or Privacy & data to download or delete it.
- If no one opens My kid years for 12 months, we email the account owner and your teen, then delete it 30 days later. Opening it keeps it.
- Before your kid turns 13, the page shows the date the upgrade opens and a link to the Teen view demo.
- The Teen view is free. One plan covers the whole family.
