Switching budgeting apps? Side-by-side guides
Each guide puts what another app says about itself, linked to its own website, next to what Beyond Payday does. Each one also says plainly when the other app may suit you more.
Pick the app you are coming from
YNAB alternative
For people who want the big picture of income, bills, net worth and retirement, rather than zero-based budgeting.
- YNAB’s blog describes zero-based budgeting as assigning all of your money to budget categories for expenses, debt payments and savings, and calls its own method a fundamental part of that approach.

Mint alternative
For former Mint users who are fine typing their numbers in, or importing them from a spreadsheet, instead of linking accounts.
- Mint’s website now says Mint has been reimagined on Credit Karma, and that reviewing transactions, monitoring spending and tracking net worth have a new home there.

Monarch Money alternative
For households that want to plan together without connecting bank or card accounts.
Read the guideWhat Beyond Payday is
Beyond Payday is a planning app for US households. You enter your income, bills, assets and debts by hand, or import bills, assets and debts from a CSV, TSV or XLSX file. It shows what is left each month after bills, your net worth over time, and your goals. Pro adds a month-by-month retirement plan to age 95, business tracking, and Beth, the AI assistant.
What it does not do
- No bank sync. You enter your numbers or import them from a spreadsheet.
- No transaction list to review or categorize.
- No envelope or zero-based budgeting.
- A web app you can install on your phone or computer from the browser. For app-store versions, check the stores for current availability.
- US households only.
