What Beth, your AI assistant, can do

Beth, your AI assistant, is built on Anthropic's Claude. It's a Pro feature that reads the financial information you've entered and answers your questions about it in plain English. Beth can look things up, do the math, and walk you through the app — but it can't change your financial data.

How it works

• Beth answers using your own data. It has about 40 read tools for your income, bills, assets, debts, goals, net worth, businesses, and retirement projections, plus current US tax and contribution limits.
• It only uses numbers it looks up for you, not guesses, and shows answers in plain language with tables or charts when helpful.
• It can guide you around the app by highlighting the exact button or section on your screen with a spotlight.
• It can explain the SHTF plan, including its four levels, inherited changes, and save controls. It can read your saved plan (owners and spouses), but it cannot change or save it.
• After each answer it can suggest up to three short follow-up questions, shown under Ask next inside its latest reply, that you can tap to ask next.
• Limits: 50 messages per person per UTC day and 500 characters per message. The allowance resets at midnight UTC. Messages count when processing starts, including interrupted or failed answers.
• Beth checks your household permissions before using data. It cannot access a financial area your account is not allowed to read.

What Beth can and can't do

Beth can:

• Explain your income, bills, debts, net worth, and retirement outlook.
• Run precise calculations, like loan payoff or a debt payoff plan.
• Look up current IRS and Social Security figures for you.
• Show you where a feature lives and how to use it.
• Read your saved SHTF plan and list your saved retirement reports (owners and spouses).
• List your Save money (opens in a new tab) suggestions with each bill's tip type and its written tips. It can't tell which ones you hid.
• Explain the checks on Save money (opens in a new tab). That page works on any plan with bills access and does not call AI; chatting with Beth still requires Pro. The amounts are current costs, not promised savings. It cannot verify whether you use a subscription or whether a cheaper provider offer is available.

Beth can't change your financial data. It can't add, edit, or delete your income, bills, assets, debts, goals, or businesses — you do that yourself on the pages. There are only two things Beth can save, and each happens only after you say yes:

• Save your own birthday, so retirement and contribution-limit math work.
• Send a support request to the Beyond Payday team, with helpful context from your chat, when you need a human.

Your data and privacy

• To answer you, Beth sends your questions and the data used to reply to Anthropic, the AI provider. Under Anthropic's business terms, this data is not used to train their models.
• Please don't paste sensitive details like Social Security, card, or bank account numbers. Beth shows a gentle warning if it spots something that looks sensitive.
• Beth is for Pro members and is turned off for child accounts.

Good to know

• Finance only. Beth sticks to your finances and Beyond Payday features, and politely declines off-topic questions.
• Not advice. Answers are for information only, based on the settings and data you entered — not guarantees, and not a substitute for a professional.
• You can turn it off. In Settings (opens in a new tab), the Beth, your AI assistant toggle ("Show the AI chat button for financial guidance") shows or hides Beth.
