Kid Mode can add an allowance to your kid's jars on its own, every week or every month. With Ask me first, money your kid adds waits for your OK before it lands in the jars. Everything shows in your kid's money feed, where you can undo or edit any entry.
Steps
- Open Settings (opens in a new tab), select the Family tab, and open your kid's row menu. Choose Open.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Under Allowance, pick Every week or Every month, type How much, and pick the day. Pick None for no allowance.
- To pause it for a while, pick a date in Pause until (optional).
- Under Ask me first, pick Off, Over an amount or Everything.
- Choose Save settings.
How it works
- Allowance is added on the day you pick, in your family's time zone. In the Big kid view with a money rule, it splits by the rule; otherwise it splits evenly between Save and Spend. A paused allowance starts again on the date you picked. If a day is ever missed, Kid Mode adds it within a week (never for a day before you set up the allowance).
- Ask me first applies to money your kid adds with I got money:
- Off: it shows up right away. You see it in the feed and can undo it.
- Over an amount: money over the amount you type waits for your OK.
- Everything: everything your kid adds waits for your OK.
- Waiting for you on the Money tab lists everything that needs you. Choose Approve or Decline. Your kid's row on the Family tab, and a card on your dashboard, show how many things wait for you.
- Undo and Edit never leave a jar below $0: undo the later spends first. A loan that later money already paid back can't be undone until you undo that money.
- The feed lists every entry by day, who added it and which jars it touched. Choose Undo to take an entry off the jars, or Edit to fix it. Choose Show older to see more.
- Kids can undo too. After your kid logs something, an Oops, undo note lets them take back their last entry.
Good to know
- Kid Mode only records money. You pay the allowance yourself.
- Money you add with Add money on the Money tab never waits for approval.
- The Big kid view's Money rule (Save, Spend and Give percents that add up to 100%) is on the same Settings tab. Your kid can change their own split on My money rule, or for one entry.
- Kid devices never get notifications. Check the Family tab or your kid's page for things waiting for you.
