A job is work for pay
A job is work people do. Workers earn money for it.
Who pays the worker?
The worker does the job. A boss or a customer pays.
Other ways money comes
Some grown-ups get money from a help program. Some worked for many years, then retired. They still get money from that work.
Every job helps someone
Bakers make food. Nurses help sick people. Drivers take us places.
The story: Work at the bakery
On a busy street, Maya pays a baker for a cake, and the baker pays Kayla, a worker who uses a wheelchair, for helping at the bakery.
- Helper: Hi there! Let’s walk down the street.
- Seller: I bake cakes. Baking is my job.
- Maya: May I buy a cake, please?
- Seller: Thank you! Here is your cake.
- Kayla: I work at the bakery, too. I help the customers.
- Seller: Thank you for working today, Kayla. Here is your pay.
- Helper: Work earns money. That money is called pay.
The game: Helper Match
Meet each worker. Tap the picture of their work.
