Every bill card on the Bills page has three controls: a switch to turn the bill on or off, an edit button, and a delete button. Turning a bill off keeps it in your list but leaves it out of every total. Deleting removes it from Beyond Payday.

Steps

To edit a bill:

  1. Go to Bills (opens in a new tab) and find the bill.
  2. Click the pencil button on its card. The Edit Bill form opens.
  3. Change what you need, such as the amount, category, or how often it's charged.
  4. Click Update.

To turn a bill off (or back on):

  1. Go to Bills (opens in a new tab) and find the bill.
  2. Click the Included in plan switch on its card. A bill that's off appears faded.
  3. Click the switch again to turn it back on.

To delete a bill:

  1. Go to Bills (opens in a new tab) and find the bill.
  2. Click the trash button on its card.
  3. Confirm with Delete.

How it works

  • A bill that's off is left out of every calculation: totals, the dashboard, the Calendar and This Month views, and Money in and out. The switch's tooltip reads "Unchecked items won't be included in calculations."
  • To hide bills that are off, open the filters and set Status to Active Only. Remove the Hide Disabled chip to show them again.
  • Deleting a bill also removes its links to accounts and its business split. A debt the bill was linked to is not deleted, but the Debt Payoff Planner leaves out debts that have no linked payment bill.

Good to know

  • Turning a bill off or deleting it doesn't cancel anything with the company you pay. Beyond Payday only tracks the bills you enter.
  • Deleting can't be undone. If you might need the bill again, turn it off instead.
  • Children can only change bills inside their own view of the household, and some bills are read-only to them.

FAQ

What's the difference between turning a bill off and deleting it? A bill you turn off stays in your list and can be switched back on, but it no longer counts in any calculation. Deleting removes the bill from Beyond Payday, so you'd need to add it again to bring it back.

Does deleting a bill delete the debt it was linked to? No. The debt stays on your Debts page. Only the bill, its account links, and its business split are removed.

Why can't I edit or delete a bill? Editing needs permission to update bills, and deleting also needs permission to delete them. On the Free plan, bills linked to a business can't be edited from Bills.
