Holdings are a list of what an account owns, like funds, stocks or bonds. They are for your information. The account value you saved is still the number Beyond Payday uses.

Steps

  1. Save the account first. In a new account the section reads Save this account first, then add what's inside it.
  2. Open the account from Assets (opens in a new tab).
  3. Under What's inside this account, select Add holding, fill in Name, Type, Shares (optional), Value today and What you paid (optional), and select Save holding.
  4. To bring in many at once, select Import from a file, choose your file, check that the columns match, review the rows and select Save N holdings. Rows with a problem are listed so you can fix the file.
  5. If you change your mind, select Undo this import right after.

How it works

  • The mix shows each type as a percentage and a bar with labels.
  • Mismatch notice. If the total is not the account value you will see "Your holdings add up to $X; this account shows $Y." Use holdings total fills the value field. Nothing changes until you save the account.
  • Clear all removes every holding in the account after you confirm.
  • The Assets page shows N holdings on the account row.

Good to know

  • Pensions, annuities, bonds and stock compensation accounts do not have a holdings list.
  • Importing skips a file's total and footnote lines (such as Account Total or Pending Activity), so they are never counted as holdings.
  • Changing the account to a type without a holdings list (for example, a pension) removes its holdings. You are asked to confirm first, and it can't be undone.

FAQ

Do holdings change my account value?

No. The account value stays whatever you saved. If your holdings add up to something different, you can choose Use holdings total.

How many holdings can one account have?

500
