Update, turn off, or delete an asset

Every asset card on the Assets page has three controls: an Included in plan switch, an edit button, and a delete button. Edit an asset to update its balance. Turning it off keeps it in your list but leaves it out of every total. Deleting removes it from Beyond Payday.

Steps

To update a balance or other details:

1. Go to Assets (opens in a new tab) and find the asset.
2. Click the pencil button on its card. The Edit Asset form opens.
3. Change what you need, such as the current balance or value.
4. Click Update Asset.

To turn an asset off (or back on):

1. Go to Assets (opens in a new tab) and find the asset.
2. Click the Included in plan switch on its card.
3. Click the switch again to turn it back on.

To delete an asset:

1. Go to Assets (opens in a new tab) and find the asset.
2. Click the trash button on its card.
3. Confirm with Delete.

How it works

• An asset that's off is left out of every calculation, including your Net Worth. The switch's tooltip reads "Unchecked items won't be included in calculations."
• To hide assets that are off, open the filters and set Status to Active Only. Remove the Hide Disabled chip to show them again.
• Deleting an asset also deletes any goal linked to it. The confirmation names those goals first. Debts, bills, and income that were linked to the asset are kept, but the link is removed.

Good to know

• Beyond Payday stores only an asset's current value, so an update replaces the old number. Save a Snapshot on the dashboard if you want a record over time.
• Deleting can't be undone. If you might need the asset again, turn it off instead.
• Children can only change assets inside their own view of the household.
