Kids’ privacy notice

Version 1.0 · Effective October 3, 2026

This notice explains what Beyond Payday collects about children under 13 in Kid Mode and in our kids’ lessons, how we use it, and the choices parents have. It adds to our Privacy Policy, which covers everything else.

1. Who we are

Beyond Payday is run by HTMLGuy LLC, dba Beyond Payday. We are the only company that collects information from children in Kid Mode.

2. Kid Mode is for children under 13, set up by a parent

Kid Mode gives a child their own jars, goals and lessons on a tablet or on a parent’s device. It is made for children under 13.

Only a parent or legal guardian with a Beyond Payday account can turn it on, in Settings → Family. Children can’t sign up for Kid Mode, and they never give us an email address, a phone number or a password.

Before we save anything about your child, we show you what we keep and ask for your OK. Then we email you a copy of your consent, and a second email about a day later to confirm it. If you didn’t do this, or you change your mind, reply to either email or delete your child’s Kid Mode data in Settings → Family.

Kid Mode is for tracking only. No real money moves. Beyond Payday never holds your child’s money.

3. What we collect from or about children

Some of this you type in, and some your child adds while using Kid Mode:

  • Your child’s first name, and birth month and year. The month is optional.
  • The look your child picks for their picture (avatar).
  • Jar amounts, and the labels and notes you or your child add, such as who gave the money or what it bought.
  • Goals, keep-safe money and the wish list.
  • Jobs your child takes and finishes, and asks to borrow money.
  • Lesson progress, stars and stickers.
  • Picture choices your child suggests for the family’s lists.
  • Which devices are paired, the name you give each one, and the day each one last opened Kid Mode. Each paired device keeps its own key in a cookie so it can open Kid Mode.
  • The day Kid Mode was last used for your child, so we know when information is no longer needed.
  • Your child’s unlock code (3 pictures or a 4-digit PIN), kept only in scrambled form.
  • Your consent record: your name, the date you agreed, and the version of this notice you saw.

Like any website, our hosting providers receive the network (IP) address of each device that opens Kid Mode, so they can deliver the pages. We use it only to keep Kid Mode working and safe, for example to slow down someone guessing codes. We don’t store it with your child’s information.

4. How we use it

We use this information only to run Kid Mode for your family: to show your child’s jars, goals and lessons, to let you see and OK what your child adds, and to keep Kid Mode secure.

  • No ads, and no analytics or ad tracking on Kid Mode screens.
  • No profiling, and no selling or sharing of children’s information.
  • No AI. Kid Mode jars, entries, goals, lessons and devices never go to an AI service, and our AI assistant can’t read them.
  • No notifications on kid devices.

A few service providers process this information for us, only to run Kid Mode: Supabase stores it, Vercel hosts the app, Upstash keeps short-lived counters that stop people from guessing codes, and Mailgun sends emails to you. We never email your child.

Your child’s first name is also on your family list in Beyond Payday. If you use our AI assistant for your own planning, it can see the people on that list, as our Privacy Policy explains.

When you upgrade your child to the Teen view at 13, the amounts in their jars, their allowance and any money they owe move into regular money records in your family. From then on they are like your other family records: if you use our AI assistant, it can read them. Your child can’t use AI features.

You can agree to Kid Mode without agreeing to share your child’s information with anyone else. We don’t share it.

5. Public lessons for kids

Anyone can play our kids’ lessons in the Learning Center, with no account.

  • No sign-up. A grown-up can type a name on the award to print or save it. The name stays on that device and is never sent to us.
  • No analytics, no ad pixels and no tracking cookies on kids’ lessons.
  • We count how many lessons are started and finished each day, with nothing that shows who played.
  • Progress stays in the open browser tab and is gone when the tab closes.
  • “Show a grown-up” at the end shows a code a grown-up can scan to see the award. The link holds which lessons were finished and the stars, never a name.

6. Your rights as a parent

You can see, download, change or delete your child’s information, and take back your OK, at any time:

  • Open Settings → Family, open your child, then the Privacy & data tab.
  • Download your child’s data saves a file with everything Kid Mode keeps.
  • Delete Kid Mode data removes all of it and takes back your OK. Your child’s first name stays on your family list unless you also choose to remove your child from the family.
  • Or email us, call us or use our contact form, and we’ll do it for you.

We never ask a child for more information than Kid Mode needs to work.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your child’s information only as long as Kid Mode needs it: to show your child’s jars, goals and lessons, to let you see and OK what your child adds, and to keep Kid Mode secure. Once Kid Mode goes unused, we no longer need it, so we delete it.

  • Kid Mode counts as used when your child opens it, when a parent opens your child’s page in Settings → Family, or when someone opens My kid years.
  • If Kid Mode isn’t used for your child for 12 months, we email the account owner. If it still isn’t used within 30 days of that email, we delete your child’s Kid Mode data and take back your OK, just as if you had chosen Delete Kid Mode data.
  • When your child moves to the Teen view at 13, the Kid Mode history they can look back on (My kid years) follows the same rule.
  • When you delete Kid Mode data, it is deleted from Beyond Payday right away. Copies in our backups are gone within 30 days.
  • We keep the record that you gave and then took back your OK (your name, the dates and the notice version), with nothing about your child, so we can show we asked.
  • Devices that haven’t opened Kid Mode for 90 days are unpaired on their own.
  • Error logs from Kid Mode screens hold record numbers only, never names or amounts, and are deleted after 30 days.
  • Pairing codes stop working after 10 minutes.
  • If the account owner deletes the whole Beyond Payday account, all Kid Mode data and consent records go with it.

8. How we keep it safe

  • Kid Mode data sits in tables that only our servers can read. The app in a browser can’t reach them directly, and every request is checked against your family.
  • Unlock codes and your grown-up PIN are stored scrambled (hashed), never as plain text.
  • Each paired tablet gets its own key, and we keep only a scrambled copy of it.
  • Too many wrong codes lock Kid Mode for a while. After more wrong codes, a parent has to reset it.
  • We follow a written security program for Kid Mode data, with a named owner and a yearly review.

9. Changes to this notice

If we change what we collect from children, or how we use or share it, we’ll post a new version here with a new date, and ask for your OK again before the change applies to your child.
